This is the third collaboration between Anubhav Sinha and Taapsee Pannu, following Mulk (2018) and Thappad (2020). Like those films, Assi does not aim to entertain in the traditional Bollywood sense.

Story Overview

Taapsee Pannu plays Raavi, a fearless lawyer who takes up Parima’s case and fights it against a system that is stacked against survivors. The accused are not shadowy figures.

Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub plays a dual role as both a father and a husband connected to the case. His character, upon seeing his wife in a hospital bed barely conscious, flashes a reassuring smile at his son and tells him his mother is sleeping.
